The RN to BSN program at Grand Canyon University meets the requirements for clinical competencies as defined by CCNE and AACN using non-traditional experiences for practicing nurses. These experiences come in the form of direct and indirect care experiences in which licensed nursing students engage in learning within the context of their hospital organization, their specific care discipline and their local communities.
In this assignment, you will select a program, quality improvement initiative, or other project from your place of employment. Assume you are presenting this program to the board for approval of funding. Write an executive summary (850-1,000 words) to present to the board, from which they will make their decision to fund your program or project. The summary should include:
1.The purpose of the program or project.
2.The target population or audience.
3.The benefits of the program or project
4.The cost or budget justification.
5.The basis upon which the program or project will be evaluated.
This topic should be based on my place of employment, the pediatric ICU. Nursing turn-over is a big issue in my unit. Not based on work or dissatisfaction but based on advancement of nursing degrees. Currently we have 10 seasoned nurses in Nurse Practitioner Programs. Based on nursing turn-over/nursing shortages how can we train new nurses proficient at their jobs quicker? This is the topic.

The UNC Children's Clinic Hospital is one of the major referral centers for children with various complications. The center has a bed capacity to cater for 150 inpatients and a comprehensive outpatient care center all under one unit. Children can access multiple specialists in a centralized location ( HYPERLINK "/" \t "_blank" N.C. Children's Hospital, 2015). Health experts work in collaboration with other community-based clinics and other pediatricians in other states to offer specialized care to more than 70,000 children in North Carolina annually ( HYPERLINK "/" \t "_blank" N.C. Children's Hospital, 2015). Since many patients condition requires long hospital stays the hospital have acknowledged the need for kids to feel at home. That is why the hospital is currently expanding its services by constructing a child-friendly amenities with private rooms equipped with all requirement for children and their families. With the expansion plans underway, quality should not be compromised. Therefore, the hospital should consider how best to improve the quality and safety of care for critically ill pediatric patients and how best to motivate nurses who work at the center ( HYPERLINK "/" \t "_blank" N.C. Children's Hospital, 2015). Accordingly, I propose the introduction of Pediatric Critical Care Program, which is a coordinated approach to improving safety for critically ill patients and also motivate nurses within the pediatric ICU department. The program aims at focusing on eliminating hospital-acquired infection at the same time strengthening communication systems to improve service delivery to patients (Schwartz, 2008).
The program will target health care teams involved in the ICU unit especially those involved in quality improvement and teamwork training. The two-year program will support a core team working with Pediatric ICU staff to develop a better management approach to improving quality care. More efforts will focus on safety and staff motivation. The program consists of a program team including the ICU medical director, the ICU nurse manager, a quality analyst, the program manager, and one family center care specialist (Schwartz, 2008).
The team will be responsible for overseeing the various activities within the hospital. One of the major responsibilities of the team will be to monitor the quality dashboard and raise any concerns identified. The team will also facilitate widespread communication initiatives through monthly newsletters (Schwartz, 2008). Some of the proposed activities for the proposed pediatric critical care program aim at improving the rates of associated blood stream infections; ventilator-related pneumonia and Foley catheter-related urinary tract infection within the center (Schwartz, 2008). The staff will be engaged in hygiene observation processes and receive immediate feedback as part of the compliance findings that will be pinned on the dashboard. The program also aims at improving communication in regards to line maintenance by discussing daily goal communication sheet.
The program will also regularly conduct continuous medical education to minimize the current nurse turnover being experienced at the center. Currently...
