For over 100 years, it has been part of the American culture for diners to tip waiters and waitresses serving them meals. This practice is both counterproductive and unfair, others are of the idea that service is bound to suffer if tipping is abolished. In addition, proponents argue that servers are likely to lose money if customers do not tip. One important question that arises here is, do stakeholders receive any value from tipping? This essay illustrates that tipping should be banned because it has no benefit to customers, servants, and racial equality
Regardless customers tip or not, they are still getting the same service. Tipping should be eliminated as soon as possible as it will not affect the quality of service or customer satisfaction. According to Zagorsky (2018), tips negatively ruin the work ethics among waiters and largely affects the hospitality industry. Scholars who have investigated the issue of tipping especially in North America agree that this culture creates problems than solving any specific one (Wachter, 2008). While tipping has persisted as a cultural norm, there is no profound correlation between the service quality and the amounts of tips given to the servers.
When servants receive tips, their basic wage is reduced. According to Doyle (2018), tipped workers often have lower minimum wages than then recommended minimum wage. So their whole benefit is not improved. During the short time tips is make you gain money but for long time works no-tipping will be better in future. Dunn (2018) suggests that the money given as tips could instead be used to provide a number of benefits to the servants, including health insurance, retirement schemes and paid family leaves. These alternatives have been experimented by a number of restaurants although others have cited lost businesses and returned to accept this old tradition of accepting tips.
