Examples of two ethical theories that are significant to this practice include utilitarianism and virtue ethics. In this model, intrinsic value and environmental justice are the most critical moral meanings and principles about nature. This essay focuses on how these schemes and thoughts appear in the sphere of therapy dogs at schools, as illustrated below. Ethical Theories Utilitarianism and the Therapy Dog in the Schools One of the critical ethical theories discussed in class, utilitarianism, is utilized as a guiding principle for choosing therapy dogs and structuring programs within educational settings. At its core, utilitarianism advocates for enhancing total happiness and welfare (Blackorby et al., 1999). Therefore, educators and administrators can analyze the long-term implications of introducing therapy dogs into the school. They can do it by applying utilitarian perspectives in that their benefits extend beyond the momentary experience of interacting with such animals. Also, the application of utilitarianism in the therapy dog programs supports the educational goal for an improved overall quality of life. By emphasizing mental health and well-being, utilitarian concerns bring to mind the construction of an educational setting beyond academic achievement. Teachers do it by making a fun and satisfying experience for pupils with therapy dogs’ presence. Example There is a school where the therapy dogs often show up in the classrooms. However, professionals assert that these dogs reduce stress and anxiety while increasing pupils’ general welfare.
