World War II through the 1970s Student Name: Course Name: Professor`s Name: Due Date: World War II Through 1970s Introduction Historically, the World War II in itself was a landmark, not just as a war, but also because of the changes that occurred not only in the U.S., but also the entire world (Schultz, 2011). The U.S. emerged from the Depression because of its mechanization and thriving factories that came up during the war. The private sector at last benefited from the advancements in technology. When the solders returned from war, they were in need of housing. This made the housing sector grow vigorously. Many factories came up, and industrialization was inevitable. Question 1 & 2: Major Turning Points and their Impacts Early before the 1970s, a major landmark was the establishment the United Nations in 1945. It was established to promote peace and security among member states. One of its objectives was to develop friendly relations between nations. Another significant historical turning point was the Watergate Scandal. The Watergate Scandal is popular for its intricate series of political scandals that happened between 1972 and 1974. Richard M. Nixon was the President at that time. Many of the White House deals were brought to light, causing mistrust among the leaders and the nation in general. Another landmark was the unfolding of the Cold War. This led to a division between the Western countries (led by the U.S.) and the East (Communist nations). It divided Europe and the globe into the "Western bloc" and the Soviet Union dominated the Eastern bloc. The "Cold War" started in 1946 and continued until the U.S.S.R. fell in 1989. "Free countries versus Communism" was the major cause of conflict during the Cold War. This war affected the world`s economics, culture and politics (Schultz, 2011). Many people lost all the money they had invested in stocks. Many businesses including banks closed down. Many people lost their jobs. A state of hopelessness swept through the nation. This depression made America partly withdraw from the war to solve its own problems. This lasted all through 1930s. Furthermore, the First World War had impacted remarkably on the people. They considered the war to be one where "their boys" were sent over to a foreign state and lots of men got lost for unknown reasons. No fighting was taking place on American soil and thus they did not feel how European problems or others would affect them. Question 4: Roles of Women in World War II Women had their roles to play in World War II. Most of them would not j...
