Fever in acute stroke worsens prognosis
Introduction
The prospective study about the effect of fever in acute stroke is one of the most critical areas under consideration by nurses. The driving force towards this kind of research is the fact that there is no appropriate data availed to show the effects of body temperature on neurological damage in humans. The only available models providing evidence in regard to this particular area of concern is experiments carried on animals. However, there are two studies that provide information about the relationship between fever and prognosis of stroke in respect to human kind. The first study by Hindfelt established that a minimal rise in temperature had significant outcome. Terent and Andersson on the other hand found out that fever equal or greater than 38°C is associated with poor survival chances (Azzimondi, Bassein, Nonino, Fiorani, Vignatelli, & D'Alessandro, 1995).
In this respect, the studies provide that fever is associated with poor outcome especially for patients with acute stroke. To avoid any unexpected outcome, it is thus important to treat fever with antipyretic agents (Denise, 2006). The writer of this paper thus aims at establishing various ways through which the research findings contributes to nursing practice and the outcomes of patients. In addition, various ethical considerations in respect to the conduct of nursing research are evaluated in this paper. The major concern thus is to provide appropriate information about the significance of the research, its implications to nursing, objectives, methods used, effects of the findings to nursing knowledge, and whether the research has impact on education, administration, and practice.
The research study is significant as it addresses one of the most critical health problems which has impacted the lives of many patients. It provides a significant way through which stroke as a health problem can be addressed considering the effects of fever. The data acquired in the research study is significant as it relates to observational prognostic analysis of patients with acute stroke admitted at S. Orsola-Malpighi Community Teaching Hospital in Bologna (Azzimondi, et al, 1995). Major ethical considerations in respect to the nursing research include respecting patients, community needs, contextual caring, justice, provision of research information which is significant to the patients, and use of treatment which is beneficial to the patients. The ethical considerations in the nursing research are the basic tools that lead to an efficient research I respect to one of the most challenging health problem experienced by patients from different regions. It has the significance f ensuring that nurses establish the particular means through which this health problem can be addressed...
