A standard of practice in nursing are a set of guidelines that provide the nurses with a foundation on how they should act and what they are required to do within their professional capacity. The deviations from these standards may result in legal implications within the process of care (O'Connell, Gardner, & Coyer, 2014). On the other hand, it is essential to note that a standard of practice may not be considered as an approach that establishes the manner in which care is delivered since this approach is only aimed at guiding conduct during practice.
Kinds of Standards
As established, the standards of practice are essential in developing practice that is widely acceptable within the nursing industry. Standards of practice are therefore essential in defining the manner in which quality services should be provided (O'Connell, et.al.2014). However, it is essential to note that these standards are bound to change in nursing as a result of the new technologies and methods that arise. Some of the types of nursing standards include:
Assessments:
This requires the registered nursing practitioners to collect comprehensive information or data that relates to the consumer’s situation or health before any actions are initiated.
