Quality Improvement Program – Nursing Staff Shortage Taskforce
Nurses constitute the biggest group of health care workers offering direct patient care services in hospitals, and the care quality for patients strongly relies on nursing staff performance (Hassmiller & Cozine, 2006). However, nursing staff shortage is a global healthcare concern that poses a severe challenge to Oroville Hospital to meet the best quality care and patient safety objectives (Oroville Hospital, 2021). Oroville Hospital is an acute medical facility specializing in a wide range of outpatient and inpatient services, including various specialty doctor practices. It is a community-centered health facility providing high-quality care to the Oroville community and the populations residing in the neighborhoods (Oroville Hospital, 2019).
Oroville community’s landscape, distance, and coupled with the increasing need to manage Covid-19 patients, makes it susceptible to personnel shortage due to the overwhelming demand for nursing services. There is the need to review the problem and prepare an adjustment program critically. These adjustments should accommodate the nursing staff shortage, which is increasingly hindering the facility’s capacity to effectively serve the burgeoning target population. Therefore, the quality improvement endeavor entails a task force charged with gathering data to design strategies for sustaining a healthy and conducive nursing staff for optimal patient care outcomes. The task force for the quality improvement initiative will adopt a diverse interprofessional engagement to develop a strategy to design an executive summary that could be presented to the hospital’s board for funding approval (Southern Regional Education Board, 2019). The report needs to incorporate the reviewed issues, the causal variables, as well as the potential solutions or remedies to the nursing shortage challenge (Ahmed & Carmody, 2020). This paper examines the purpose, the targeted populace, the apparent benefits, the interprofessional engagement intentions, budget as well as cost implications, and the basis for evaluating the sustainable personnel management approaches suggested.
Purpose
The report constitutes a quality upgrading initiative proposal tailored to establish a task force to address the nursing staff shortage. Nurse professionals’ shortages at the Oroville Hospital will be handled within the special task force. Ultimately, the problem will be delineated, and appropriate recommendations designed to counter the workplace challenges more thoughtfully and critically (Zhang et al., 2018).
The Target Populace or Audience
The target populations play a significant role in identifying the needs of the burgeoning Oroville community and the absence of professional recruitment processes within the patient care field. The proposed task force program to handle staff shortage problems targets nurse practitioners and the human resources department. The patients also constitute the target population group since nurse shortages negatively impact patient treatment outcomes and quality of services.
