Interview(1). What is your role as a health care team member?Currently I work in acute rehab as a registered nurse. Patients in acute rehab are admitted for various reasons, mainly to regain strength following surgery, stroke or traumatic braininjury, spinal cord injury, and chronic illness. As a primary RN in acute rehab, I have many responsibilities aimed to assist the patient regain and maintain function at the highest level possible. Patient education is a primary responsibility of a rehab nurse. This includes reinforcing teaching from physical therapy and occupational therapy. Another major part of rehab education is bowel and bladder training after the patient suffers from a stroke or spinal cord injury. I work along with an interdisciplinary team to use a holisticapproach to assist patients and families transition to an altered lifestyle.(2.) How do you define professionalism and how does professional responsibility influence your work?Professionalism to me means performing your job duties with integrity. As a nurse, my goal is to do what is best for the patient and be beneficent in my actions and decisions. This influences my work greatly because it is a great responsibility to have to make decisions that can potentially effect someone’s life. I make it a personal decision to treat my patients with respect regardless of their personal attributes or decisions. Being hospitalized can be very frightening for a patient. I aim to make their hospital stay as comfortable as possible and less frightening. I also make it a point to be professionally courteous to my coworkers. I like to ensure that I don’t leave a difficult situation for the nurse that I am reporting to. Sometimes that cannot be avoided. In that case, I attempt to make it as problem free as possible.( 3). Do you consider leaders in your organization stewards of health care? Why or Why not?
The leaders in our organization have the authority to make decisions that affect staff members. This can alter the milieu on the floor. So yes, I believe that leaders are stewardsof healthcare because their actions and decisions can build up a team to greatness or break them into submission. In my experience, the latter leads to poor performance and dissatisfaction in the workplace. The leaders in the organization that I work for allow for tuition reimbursement. This is a great way to build up staff because they will be more valuable in educating patients with the most current information. It is beneficial both to the organization and to the staff member.( 4.) Is it important to you that leaders exercise professional advocacy and authenticity aswell as power and influence when working with colleagues? Why or why not?Leaders have power that can influence decision-making. When leaders are invested in their colleagues, it creates a sense of empowerment for the employee. It gives the impression that they are cared for and creates loyalty. It also aids in team building. The sense of humanity creates trust because employees will understand that the leader is sympathetic to their needs as well as the needs of the organization. By creating a team-building relationship between leader and employee, the leader will gain influence. It is important for leaders to possess all of those qualities in order to be efficient and successful in persuading and motivating their colleagues.

Peer Interview
According to Raschel Rask & Laura Smith (2006), peer interviewing “is a process for hiring employees that utilize the people within the organization to gain a complete idea of a candidate appropriateness for a position.” Peer interviews help managers to know the suitability of their preferred individuals for particular positions. In the peer interview at hand, the interviewer was interested in knowing more about the work that a registered nurse does in the acute rehab. The interviewer sought for the interviewee’s opinion with regards to leadership and professionalism and their influence in his field of specialization. This article provides a summary of the peer interview and also reacts to the interviewee’s responses.
The interviewer started the interview by asking the interviewee to explain his/her role as a health care team member. He went on to explain that his primary role is to help patients recoup and continue functioning at the highest level possible. Patient education is also another role that registered nurses in acute rehab have and this according to the interviewee involves occupational and physical therapy. Bower and bladder training are also part of the patient education that are offered by the interviewee.
The second question sought the interviewee’s intellect with regards to what professionalism is and how it has impacted his work directly. He answered by saying that he believes that as a professional, one needs always to perform his job duties with integrity. The interviewee explained that he understands what his job entails and how it is indeed a tall order to influence people's lives directly with what one does.
