An eating disorder can be defined as a continuous disturbance of eating behavior or habits intended to cause extreme distress on body shape and weight, which significantly impairs the health and psychosocial functioning of the body. It is believed that eating disorders make up some of the highest mortality rates of any psychiatric disorder (Hoek, 2006). There are several examples of eating disorders but the most common types are; Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa, and Binge eating disorder. The driving force behind eating disorders is a self-imposed weight loss either by starvation, deliberate fasting, and purging, and also over-exercising with the effort to quickly burn calories. Symptoms associated with eating disorders include notable weight loss, behavioral practices such as limiting food and drink intake, physical complications such as constipation, low blood pressure, and psychological symptoms like depression, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts.
