Nursing Theory to Guide Practice and Reflection Student's Name Institutional Affiliation Nursing Theory to Guide Practice and Reflection Through my whole time in college, I studied theorists whose theories I memorized for the sake of passing the nursing school exams. All through I kept wondering what significance these theorists together with their theories will have to me when I will graduate. Few years after graduation and into the nursing practice, I realized that the work I do is based on some of the theories that I learned in schools and they are right in my area of specialization. My personal philosophy, work ethics, behavior and the way I treat my patients fall into the realms of few nursing theories that I studied while at college. They shaped my framework to be a careful, conscientious and caring nurse. After reviewing all the different theories, I can see where my practice is based on. At the beginning I knew nothing but I learned and had confidence in myself and in one way or the other I may be an expert in the practice. Working in medical centers that provide care for all people from almost the whole world, I believe in Madeleine Leininger's "Transcultural Theory." It is imperative for nurses to recognize and acknowledge cultural differences, different health care perceptions and be ready to work within them to offer respectful care to the patients (Masters, 2014). Since the theories embrace different viewpoints, nurses should also embrace few or all of the theories. Studying the nursing theories is significant for nursing students since it helps them to understand their chosen career path.
