While the implementation plan prepares students to apply their research to the problem or issue they have identified for their capstone change proposal project, the literature review enables students to map out and move into the active planning and development stages of the project.
A literature review analyzes how current research supports the PICOT, as well as identifies what is known and what is not known in the evidence. Students will use the information from the earlier PICOT Statement Paper and Literature Evaluation Table assignments to develop a 750-1,000 word review that includes the following sections:
1. Title page
2. Introduction section
3. A comparison of research questions
4. A comparison of sample populations
5. A comparison of the limitations of the study
6. A conclusion section, incorporating recommendations for further research
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Fall prevention is one of the safety challenges for health care providers; falls is the leading cause of accidental deaths in the US and is attributed to higher health care cot annually. Falls are a common occurrence among the older population, accounting for more than 10 percent of emergency visits and hospitalization more among Medicare beneficiaries (Vlaeyen et al, 2017). In the older population fall becomes an everyday risk, be it around the house, climbing stairs, and inappropriate footwear or even when performing normal duties increase the risk of falling.
Falls are common, but are preventable events; therefore several articles have reviewed information about everyday lifestyle choices among older adults, and falls risk assessment methods and various fall prevention interventions to identify barriers and facilitators for fall preventions in various hospital settings (Morris et al., 2016). Several fall interventions programs like Podiatric interventions, integrating technological equipment into patient handling and movement and 6-PACK programme on falls and fall injuries in acute wards have been proposed to act as fall prevention guidelines from best practices to minimize fall among the older population (Barker et al, 2016). Patient safety is one of the healthcare priorities, hence fall prevention programs have been recommended by various health experts.
Several articles advocates for evidence-based multidisciplinary intervention fall prevention programs as the recommended cost-effective strategy for preventing falls among the older population. Positive changes have been witnessed in situations where falls prevention practice was implemented, hence fall prevention programs are recommended to act as fall prevention guidelines.
To understand the association between fall prevention programs and hospital related costs among the older population, this paper presents different research studies about fall prevention programs and their levels of effectiveness in minimizing the overall cost of patient care and also improving patient health outcomes.
Comparison of research questions
Most research questions revolve around understanding factors that might act as either barriers or facilitators and might negatively impact on patient handling and movement to increase the risk of falling. The research questions also examine the effectiveness of various proposed fall prevention programs as some of the best evidence-based practices that can be used to establish fall prevention guideline in older persons (Wilkinson et al, 2018).
A comparison of sample populations
The sample population includes patients admitted within acute wards, either where samples generated from household comprising of the older population and medical centers that served old people like the Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers. The sample participants comprised of the older population because they were at a higher risk of frequent falls due to the age-related problems (Elnitsky et al, 2014).
A comparison of the limitations of the study
One notable limitation presented in these studies was the many causes of falls; the research studies presented generalized experien...
