Nursing career is among the most prevalent jobs in the United State, there are more than 2.5 million Americans working as nurses throughout the country. One of the reasons for why there are so many nurses than in most of the other occupation is because nurses can specialize in different areas. Nurse jobs can vary from doctor assistants to family nurses working for patients with trauma in emergency room. Due to change in technology in the medicine industry, federal laws require healthcare institutions to shift into electronic health and medical reporting. Therefore, nurses with interests in dealing with technology are the called nurse informatics. Nurse informatics role differ with the normal nurses we know depending on the kind of facility of healthcare and the location.
Therefore, nursing informatics means the process of overseeing the incorporation of data, information and knowledge so has to help healthcare institutions and patients with decision-making. The interpretation of clinical information and its impact on healthcare requires the coordination of data, information, knowledge and wisdom.
Summary of the question developed
Nurses use Central Venous Catheters (CVC) in all healthcare institutions mostly in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the support patients’ life during an operation. CVCs are very important as they provide patients with necessary care such as administering blood products, parenteral nutrition and the intravenous medications. Despite their importance in saving lives by bridging the gap, researches confirm that they bring along infections, mortality, thrombosis and other patient impediments.
Therefore, the hypothetical question is:
Is there need for the use of central line bundle interventions in preventing CLABSI (Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infection) with a CVC (Central Venous Catheters)?
United States alone experiences almost 100, 000 incidents of CLABSI yearly. Therefore, by use of data, information, knowledge and wisdom there is hope for nurses to solve the puzzle in preventing CLABSI among the patients CITATION Age14 \l 1033 (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2014).
Databases and search words
The following databases were employed in the search and collection of data about CLABSI. They include Medline and Cochrane CINHAL plus. The relevant search words for the project involved nosocomial infection, central line blood stream infections, bundle intervention, ICU, and sepsis. The project used reference research on the risks of infections in ICU from Medline database.
Data
This is information in forms such as, sentences, words, figures and facts collected from surveys in the hospitals, laboratories and experiments. Data forms the foundation of forming critical conclusions there later. They describe the patients’ conditions and their environment. Data collection from 20 National Healthcare Safety network hospitals aided in the process.
