Reflection on IOM Recommendations
The recommendations stated in the Institute of Medicine, IOM, future of nursing are meant to advance the health care sector as well as improve the role of nurses in the contemporary world. Considering that most of the recommendations require improved and ongoing education, the job market may become slim for those that still lag behind in terms of furthering their education (Peterson & American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2009). By the end of this year, I will be able to attain a baccalaureate degree, after which I will start looking for a job since I have no current plans of obtaining a doctorate in nursing. Therefore, it is important to identify personal options within the job market as per the education level.
Increasing the level of education is definitely one of best ways of confronting the job market. This is because according the recommendations involved, the nurses with higher education are likely to benefit than those of lower education. The current job market requires competent nurse because of the arising complications of health issues in the world’s populations. Many health institutions are in need of professionals to enhance the health care measures and thus attracting more customers. It is evident that by the year two thousand and twenty, a rate of eighty percent of nurses will have attained their baccalaureate degree. This means that by the end of this period, the job market may be slim for me too, requiring continuous learning in order to improve the skills and roles. The eighty percent increase of nurses with Baccalaureate degree means that they will be required to have an added advantage on top of the degree that would make them outstanding.
