Nursing homes record the highest injury rates among all health care facilities, the most frequent injury is to the back. Slips, trips and falls, violence and chemical exposure cause other injuries, with nurses being the workers who experience the highest rate of injury. (Cole, 2013)

Research nursing homes make financial and safety improvements to improve patient safety. In the same capacity, there is need for more work to improve employee safety. These improvements also benefit patients, as this would lead to healthier and effective workers. Data from the Bureau Labor of Statistics reveal that injuries from overexertion in health facilities are twice as many as compared to other industries while the rate for nursing home tripled. Repositioning of patients, moving, and lifting causes most of these injuries.
The rise of rates of obesity and hence lifestyle diseases has increased the demand on caregivers. Nursing work continues to incur strain due to a rising number of the aged and high turnover of employees. Therefore, as the health and safety manager, there is need to gather data and conduct research to determine the type of injuries that need immediate attention.
