Health Plans
Health care facilities are faced with quite a number of challenges among them data management. Information management is a crucial element of the healthcare management aspects, especially with reference to accessing patient health histories. Health caregivers rely on the data management systems to develop and manage the health plans (Availity, 2016).
It is common for health plans to have more than one department collecting data on the various patients that they attend to. The various sets of data are then stored by the different department in different silos (Availity, 2016). This results in segregated data silos instead of a centralized place, which is a compromise to the health care plans. As such, it is crucial that the health care data be stored in one place where is can be accessed by all the health care providers. This helps to streamline the health care provision aspects, with reference to the fact that health care plans can be refined to reflect all the information collected (Hoechsmann, 2012).
The idea of having all the data in one place is related to the fact that, different practitioners will have the chance to access the data at different times (Quantin et al., 2011). This makes decision making much easier and more refined relative to the fact that the practitioners have more than one set of data. It important to note that, this may not be the same case when it comes to the different environments (Hoechsmann, 2012). Ideally, the rural based health care hospitals will have limited data relative to the limited resources.
This is also the case with the areas that are underserved. Ideally, relative to the fact that most of the systems required to stored. However, with centralized storage facilities, the various hospitals have access to the various data sets as they just have get access to the data nodes across the country (Hoechsmann, 2012). This also works within spaces where there are many competing facilities, as they also get access to data which means regardless of the facility patients visit, their data is available (Quantin et al., 2011).
