Technology has had massive impacts in the health care sector, improving the quality of care, standards of care and the deliverables. A comparison of the level of health care quality a century ago and what is possible today reveals a massive leap in growth. This is relative to the fact that technology has impacted the health care sector (Krueger, 2010). One of the main elements that is associated with technology is the fact that it still continues to grow. It has also taken up most of the processes in health care from the time that the patient is booked into a hospital facilities to the time that they are discharged and even when they come back for follow up services (Krueger, 2010). With the mobile devices such as tablets and servers that allow the medical care professionals and the patients to access their medical records from anywhere; the health care delivery has made massive leaps. Patients have the chance to get full consultation from the comfort of their homes.one of the areas in the American medical care delivery that has been affected by technology over the year is telemedicine technology and medical records (Krueger, 2010).
The telemedicine technology started back in the year 1960 as art of the health care delivery, relative to the needs of the Nebraska psychology Institute and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Gruessner, 2015). However the technology has been slow growing relative to the fact that it has experienced challenges in terms of technological, regulatory and financial constraints (Gruessner, 2015). These have been the main challenges in the last fifty years. In terms of technological advances, the lack of faster and better broadband infrastructure has been a serious challenge, relative to the amount of data that is transferred from one portal to the next and the time required to maintain high efficiency (Gruessner, 2015). Some of the improvements were experienced in the 1970s when Kaiser Foundation International in partnership with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company developed remote monitoring system with a view of improving the ability to provide health care delivery. However, due to equipment malfunction the project established at Papago Indian Reservation in Southwestern Arizona stalled. However, in light of the recent policy reforms in the federal legislations there has been a push for the adaption and development of the telemedicine technologies (Gruessner, 2015).
Before the advent of the electronic health records were the manual systems, where the medical records of the patient would be entered into files manually in writing or typing (Earl, 2015). Today, the HER systems are so advanced that patients are even able to access their own health records from anywhere in the world (Ajami & BagheriTadi, 2013). With the advent of the health mobile technology, it is much easier for medical practitioners and patients to access medical records. The current adaption rate is at 71%.
