Drugs
Drugs are classified in the categories they are so that it is easy to find the drugs that are utilized for treating a certain condition. Classification also helps one to understand the risk of harm or abuse caused by the group (International Drug Evaluation and Classification Program, 2015).
The actions of drugs in each category are described as follows: (i) Inhalants – breathable substances which bring about mind-changing effects and results; (ii) hallucinogens – cause users to see things in a different way than they really are. (iii) Central Nervous System Depressants – these drugs slow the body’s and brain’s operations. (iv) Central Nervous System Stimulants – these drugs increase blood pressure, accelerate the heart rate, and over-stimulate or speed-up the body. (v) Dissociative Anesthetics – drugs that slow down pain by dissociating or cutting off the brain’s perception of the pain. (vi) Narcotic analgesic – used to relieve pain (International Drug Evaluation and Classification Program, 2015).
Chemotherapy is understood as a sort of cancer treatment which makes use of drugs in destroying cancer cells. It is used in treating cancer illnesses. This type of treatment works by stopping cancer cells from growing or by slowing their growth. Depending on the cancer type and how that cancer has progressed, chemotherapy is able to ease the symptoms of cancer; control cancer; or cure cancer (Cancer Research UK, 2015).
