Qualitative research is a method of study that involves collecting non-numerical data on various variables to help draw appropriate conclusions on a given topic (Hennink et al., 2020). Qualitative research is straightforward and less intensive than quantitative research. Hence, researchers opt to use it when conducting brief studies. However, qualitative research can also be used for in-depth analysis. In this paper, the author explores phenomenological research and ethnographic research to ascertain their similarities and differences.
Ethnographic research involves studying a population or populations, cultures, and habits to understand human behavior (Lähdesmäki et al., 2020). Ethnographic research requires in-depth studies of subjects to draw unbiased and accurate conclusions (Lähdesmäki et al., 2020). Phenomenological research is used to understand a specific phenomenon (Beck, 2021). This type of research is popular with sociologists and psychologists because it helps them explain human behavior.
