CRA500 CASE MOD 1: Manpower and Demographics

Manpower and Demographics
The enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010 has altered the health care sector in the US. The affordable healthcare was projected to expand public-funded insurance coverage especially for the low-income individual in America. The legislation estimated that a total of 34 million Americans will be on insurance coverage. With the expanded Medicaid program, 16 million could buy insurance coverage through employers and the newly introduced insurance exchanges (Kellis, Rumberger, & Bartels, 2010).
For many years, President Obama and Congress leaders have struggled to reform the sector introducing many suggestions. Even though more than 34 million people are to benefit from the expanded health insurance, the expansions of health care coverage have not translated to quality health care service delivery. American health care system is still fragmented and does not promote health (Bodenheimer & Pham, 2010). This essay presents some of the effects of health care reforms on the US health care delivery of services.
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act aims at enhancing service delivery by integrating and coordinating care providers using the Accountable Organization Model. Accountable Care Organization model involves medical specialists like physicians, nurses and other ancillary care providers delivering care in a centralized point. This aims at saving costs and improving health care quality (Kellis, Rumberger & Bartels, 2010). However, the America health sector struggles with the staff shortage. Very few individuals are interested in joining the medical profession. In addition, training competent physicians, nurses, and other health care professional take years. With few graduates from medical school, people still have difficulties accessing competent health care providers (Bodenheimer & Pham, 2010). In one of the recent surveys conducted in Massachusetts, the survey revealed a severe shortage of medical professional affecting the patient access to care. Massachusetts is considered to have the highest physician –per –patient ratio but still needs to employ more medical personnel to meet the reforms requirements (Bodenheimer & Pham, 2010).
Maintaining a sufficient ratio to enhance quality service delivery has been one of the biggest challenges in the health care sector. With newly insured patients under the Affordable care act, the number of patients has increased. The workload has impacted on quality service delivery. Millions of citizens are being insured with limited health care workforce. Since ACA incentives and penalties on medical professional are tied to quality and performance, the current limited workforce limits access to quality care (Moffit, 2010).
The central goal of affordable care act is to have accessible health care. Heavier demands for health care services is restricting access to care .One notable example is...
