Characteristics of the disaster community resources were used
The fire disaster in Northern California was characterized with evacuation for the affected families, ecological disruption, and destruction of property and deterioration health care in the affected community. The emergency services were necessary because of food deprivation, injuries, risk of illnesses and deaths. Local health and disaster management services available during the evacuation process lessened the burden. The local health resources were crucial for those nursing injuries and traumatized, while the help of external fire fighters helped contain the fire.
Role of American Red Cross in disaster
The America Red Cross helped the residents through evacuating them and placing them in safer shelters. Some of the people only left with their clothes on, and there was a need to provide hygiene kits and meals. As the Red Cross volunteers coordinated the activities, they distributed the kits and meals to the most vulnerable first. The organization accepts donations for fire relief efforts making it easier to cater to the needs of the victims.
Role of trauma nurse in emergency/ disaster
Workings as a trauma nurse require collaboration, physicians and surgeons in planning and evaluating the most effective health care treatment. Since some of the people may be injured monitoring their progress and educating the victims and their family members improve health outcome focusing on wound care and the injury treatment. Nurses are also tasked with managing injuries resulting from burns and inhaled smoke.
