Abstract
The field of nursing is complex, difficult and could only be fully grasp after years of practice and experience. All licensed and practicing nurses are required to educate themselves to the best of their abilities with the help of their trainers and more experienced physicians. In doing so, the nurse soon grows from a novice to an expert. Generally, all nurses begin from being Novice to Experts. Likewise, “Each step builds on the previous one as abstract principles are refined and expanded by experience and the learner gains clinical expertise” Benner P.E. (2011). Therefore, “Passage from a detached observer to an involved performer, no longer outside the situation but now actively engaged in participation” Benner P.E. (2011). This paper narrates the moral issues in the article entitled Ethical Decision Making written by Hamric and Delgado, specifically detailing the moral and ethical dilemmas with an analysis of the State Health Laws and Regulations in Texas.
Introduction
The moral and ethical issues in the article are numerous such as situations involving personal values may contradict professional responsibilities such as controversies on ”abortion by reason of teen pregnancy, patient’s stubbornness to undergo treatment, childhood immunizations, state laws and regulations, and financial limitations which could serve as an obstacle for care and treatment (Delgado S.A., Hamric A.B). The moral and ethical dilemmas surrounding the issue usually becomes an ethical or moral problem when questions relative to the core values, integrity, principles and basic obligations of a nurse are visible. Thus, an ethical or moral dilemma takes place when responsibilities require the adoption of two or more choices of actions or solutions but the persons involved have compromising beliefs and principles.
