You can base your course project on information about a “real live” person, a totally fictitious person or a combination of the two. Perhaps you could use a friend, family member or yourself to develop the case project! Select and research a nutrition related disease that you are interested in such as obesity, Diabetes, Cancer, HTN, Heart Disease, Anemia, Celiac Disease as examples. The disease/condition must have nutrition as a interventional therapy for the short-term (less than 1 year) and long-term (greater than 1 year) of your client. Then develop the ABCD’s of nutrition assessment for this person with your selected disease as well as information on appropriate medications and possible interactions. NOTE: you may not use nutrition during pregnancy or any condition/situation that may be related to pregnancy including conditions such as Gestational Diabetes, hypothyroidism, anemia or pre-eclampsia, etc. If you are in doubt, email me to find out! These situations will not meet the guidelines for having a short-term and long-term nutrition intervention and/or goals for a client. Make sure to address all key areas per the assignment grading rubric: Assignment 2 Grading Criteria Maximum Points Selected and discussed a disease or medical condition that could possibly, or commonly, affect the individual. Created a realistic case study using the ABCDs of nutritional assessment. Following are questions to guide you in developing the information you present in the course project part 1: How does one’s culture, socioeconomic status and psychosocial variables impact the food choices? Include information such as age, gender, ethnicity, work status, marital status, personal relationships, living situation, etc. How do these factors impact the nutritional status? What are common medications that might be used with your selected disease? How do these medications work? What are the nutrient/drug/supplement interactions that are common and/or to be aware of with the case study you are developing? What tools (lab values, anthropometrics, etc.) would be used to address the nutritional status of your project subject? What are the actual numbers/results for your case study? What is the “normal” for each lab value? What might cause the lab value to be abnormal? What are common tests that would be completed for the diagnosis? What are the results of these tests for the case study? What is the height and weight of the test subject? What is their BMI? Has there been recent weight loss/gain? What are physical appearances of the individual that might be related to the diagnosis? Give an example of a food intake, food recall, diet record, or information about what they normally eat. You will want to follow APA formatting for this project. The ABCDs of nutritional assessment focus on anthropometric measurements, biochemical parameters or tests, clinical evaluation, and dietary history. The patient is a 32-year-old mother who has anemia, and anemia occurs where the red blood cell (RBCs) count is less than the normal levels. The patient is white, married, employed as a high school administrator, has two children, and is in the middle-class socioeconomic status. The hemoglobin levels are also lower in the blood levels in people with anemia. Besides anemia, she has menorrhagia. Iron deficiency and blood loss are the main causes of anemia. There is also the destruction of erythrocytes, alteration of the erythrocyte production mechanism causing deficiency of iron, vitamin B12, folic acid, or vitamin C, and anemia is secondary to other diseases

Anthropometrics tests 
Anthropometrics assessment includes the Weight, Height, and Body Mass Index (BMI). 
The patient is 5 feet 6 inches and weighs 120 pounds, while the BMI is 19.4, which is just slightly above the lower limit of normal weight BMI at 18.5. While the BMI is within the normal weight levels, other body proportions are considered, including the arm circumference and waist circumference, helpful to indicate the skin-fold thickness and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR).
 Biochemical tests
The normal range of hemoglobin (Hb) for women is 12 -15. 5gm/dL, but the level may differ depending on medical practice and the laboratory test administered (Mayo Clinic, 2021). The patient’s hemoglobin level is 9 gm/dL and below the normal range. Hemoglobin is the protein in RBCs and is essential in carrying oxygen to organs and tissues and removing carbon dioxide from the organs and tissues to the lungs.
The normal hematocrit for women is 36%-44%, but there are differences based on age and race (Red Cross Blood, n.d.). The patient’s hematocrit level is at 31%.
Ferritin, a blood protein containing iron, is also evaluated, and deficiency occurs when there are levels below 10ng / ml in women.
Transferrin is based on liver synthesis and secreted into the blood, and there is an evaluation of transferrin levels.
Clinical evaluation
 Clinical evaluation includes nutritional status, vital signs, and medical history that indicate general wellbeing. Unfortunately, the medical history shows the patient has anemia and menorrhagia. She plays badminton on weekends but reports low energy levels and dizziness. Reticulocyte counts, complete blood count, and blood smear are the main diagnostic tests to evaluate anemia (Cascio & DeLoughery, 2017). The patient has been taking aspirin, and one of the concerns is that the medication is a blood-thinning drug that affects the blood clotting process, which may worsen bleeding. Heavy bleeding, in turn, worsens anemia and interferes with hemoglobin synthesis.
