Federal agencies and gestational diabetes
At the federal level, there are various departments that deal with gestational diabetes. Additionally, the American Diabetes Association works with Congress to deal with various types of diabetes. Even though, the main focus is type 1 and type 2 diabetes, there have been calls for more urgent action to educate and inform mothers about the risk of gestational diabetes. In any case, there are long term consequences associated with gestational diabetes, and hence the recommendations to mothers are important in overcoming health complications (Catalano et al., 2003).
Since there is a need for better coordination at the federal level, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the most prominent agencies dealing with gestational diabetes to identify the right policy framework. Another agency that deals with gestational diabetes is the National Institutes of Health. The two main federal agencies dealing with diabetes have exerts who deal with diverse areas. A partnership between the federal agencies and the American Diabetes Association has been crucial in researching on strategies to prevent and manage gestational diabetes. This has also made it easier to share data with stakeholders, while also has facilitating diabetes surveillance for expectant mothers.
