Vision
For a professional to be a successful future leader, having a vision is inevitable (Guo, 2014). Currently I am an employee in a manufacturing company. Although, I do not exercise leadership role in the current position, I have a vision at the personal that will guide me to a leadership position. I have a vision of becoming the company chief executive officer (CEO) after five years from now. Achieving my vision of becoming the company`s CEO calls for a high level of education, vast experience and developing skills and specific personal traits. I would like to be a leader who inspires the followers towards achieving the organizational overall vision. In addition, I consider leadership as a vocation; hence, I would like to be a leader who leads with kindness, compassion and consider leadership as service to others (Chung et al., 2011).
In my leadership capabilities currently, the essential leadership competencies that I have include self-leadership, which would actually allow me to attain my goals and objectives through my own behaviours, feelings as well as thinking. However, I would like to improve my self-leadership through practicing self-reflection methods that contribute to the development of how I lead others in the organization in 3-5 years from now. At the moment I have a few characteristics of professional excellence including inspiring others, honesty and integrity. The other characteristics of professional excellence that I would like to have 3-5 years from now include taking responsibility for myself and my actions, being able to learn from others and myself, a strong moral compass, genuine concern for other people, and sincere respect for human dignity. To be a great leader in the next 3-5 years, I want to be able to demonstrate adaptability as well as flexibility in response to unknown or altering circumstances and be able to manage organizational change. I also want to be able to access my emotional center and pursue continued professional development.
Goals /objectives
Improve on my self-leadership – Self-leadership is imperative before one begins to lead others. Self-leadership involves leading oneself towards their vision, goals, and self-excellence. Having synchronized effort with fellow employees and the organization as whole would provide me with successful self-leadership and achieving of professional excellence (Chung et al., 2011).
Improve my communication skills to lead others effectively – Communication is a key feature in leadership. Enrolling in management training programs that focus on communication will provide me with training on how to be clear and brief on verbal and nonverbal relations when leading an organization. Superb communication skills will help in clearly communicating the organization strategy, results and provide guidelines and directions of achieving organization strategies. Conveying clear directions of what is required to every employee will assist in achieving leaders’ professional excellence (Mitchell, 2014).
