Due to the recent shootings that happened in a night club in Orlando, the media has been awash with all variety of news while the political class has voiced their views on gun control laws. Recently, the Senate has been holding proceedings that have hit dead ends on whether strict rules should be applied to the acquisition of firearms. This is because it is suspected that the shooter, who happened to be a terrorist, used a semi-automatic weapon with specifications of the banned weapons in the USA. The New York Times headlines shouted, "NRA's complicity in Terrorism." This article was written by Marina Muun in The Opinion Pages' Editorial Section of the New York Times. Over the same issue, Karoun Demirjian and Ed O'Keefe wrote an article on the Politics corner of The Washington Post with the headline, "Despite Trump's calls for action, Senate gun debate headed down the familiar path." The Orlando shooting turned out to be the worst single shooting incidence in the United States, making headlines across the country as a disaster. Both legislators and organizations have voiced their various opinions with some advocating for a positive change in laws concerning the firearms and weapons act. The above articles cover both the organizational and the legislators' stands with regards to the shooting, pushing for more stringent measures to deny criminals and terrorist access to crude weaponry. Muun from the New York Times claims that the body in charge of armory distribution, the National Rifles Association (N.R.A) has been complacent in offering robust rules on access to guns. He says that the United States government, precisely the Congress and the NRA, make it easier for terrorists and other presumed criminals to gain access to assault weaponry which could slaughter a massive population within a short period. Muun goes ahead to claim that the gun lobby has stopped cognizant measures at every trial. He accuses the Congress of valuing the weaponry industry over the citizens they rule over. He even goes ahead to state that they are the ones who aid the rampant terrorism witnessed in the country. On a similar ground, Demirjian and O'Keefe have emphasized the same issue by accusing the Congress of being reluctant in passing the bill that could stop such impasse from recurring. The central question they address is how the government should find a way to barring terror suspects from acquiring guns. They quote Donald Trump, a presidential candidate in the forthcoming US Elections as to calling for Congressional action. He is said to have planned on meeting the country's National Rifles Association to build the support required to push for the passing of this bill.
