There are different types of generations. Generation X, Y and Z are examples of these generations. Each generation has its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. This paper will look at the differences between generation X and Y and the implications that each generation brings from a management perspective. Also the paper will describe the elements in an integrated management approach.
Generation X is the generation that covers people born between the early 1960s and early 1980s. The events that occurred during the youth of this generation like the fall of the Berlin wall are the events that defined the upbringing of this generation X and its culture. (Reeves & Oh, 2008).This generation is more open to diversity. Generation Y covers individuals conceived between the 1980s and 2000.Generation Y is a generation that in their youth, there was some great technological revolution changes. With the emergence of electronic items. Numerous Millennials grew up seeing their guardians working day and night trying to make ends meet, this subsequently has formed their own perspectives on the workforce. They believe in the need to have a work-life balance.
It is evident that the generations have differences. The people of each generation had a different background. The generation X people had a rough upbringing compared to people of Gen Y as they experienced the cold war, a series of economic crisis, fall of the Berlin wall and many others. On the other hand Gen Y has a better upbringing as they have a perfect childhood. As a result of this, generation X are seen as the people who are keen on bring down any messed up institutions of the Boomers, while the Millennials will be the ones who are inclined in rebuilding any chaos that arise.(Arsenault 2004)
The integrated management methodology is an arrangement of interrelated or cooperating components to set up approach and goals and to accomplish those objectives. Some of these components incorporate arranging, arrangement making, execution appraisal, and management review. (O’Toole, 2000) .All these elements are important to any given organization as they help in service deliver. Planning is important as it helps in knowing what the organization is aiming for and what to expect ahead. Implementation and operation then will kick start realization of the desired goals, and this is monitored through performance assessment.
