Human resources within an organization include a range of functional areas that consists of responsibilities such as recruitment, staffing, compensation, training, and development of the employees. Over the past two decades, the human resource profession has evolved and continues to evolve from the professionals and the way they enter into the profession to the roles that HR serves and its impact within an organization. Human resource is believed to offer more than just record keeping, employee training, compensation, and befits administration and payroll. However, some of the transactional functions that formed the core responsibilities of human resource departments are being outsourced to allow the organization focus on their strategies through leadership development. Additionally, it is argued that many organizations do not engage HR functions in their strategic roles (Society for Human Resource Management, 2008). Nevertheless, to understand the functions of HR within organizations requires one to know how HR is being approached in the context of the firm in which it is operating.
Human resource measures the contribution and builds the organization's best practices as well as participates in the strategic planning of the businesses. The HR professionals in an organization should contribute to the strategic planning of the organizations since they are the members. Their responsibility is to turn future strategies into manageable practices and capabilities that will help the organization to achieve its objectives. HR shares the responsibility of delivering organizational performance.
