Delays to deliveries may complicate operations by slowing down business, and may increase the costs. Additionally, rushing the delivery may cause further problems, and dissatisfied customers unhappy with the services. When there are more packages and large shipments than expected, there is a slowdown in the supply chain system. Research on logistics and supply chain can offer solutions of late delivery by identifying the processes, procedures and systems that complicate the delivery process. For instance, better estimation of the expected package volumes can make a big difference between delivery on time or facing unnecessary delays (Halzack, 2015).
FedEx is a logistics and supply chain management solution provider. Even though, the company has been known for efficiency, with increase in supply chain requirements there is likely to be delays in delivering shipments domestically and internationally. On-time delivery is crucial to the success of the company as a business solutions provider. With the adoption of IT systems, the company is better placed to manage deliveries as required, with extra measures undertaken in cases there are delays to plane and shipment transportation. Meeting the customer specific needs requires optimizing the supply chain management system including inventories. The delay in delivering packages and shipments may cause customer resentment as they lose trust in the ability of the company to meet customer requirements.
FedEx relies on the research analysis to design delivery systems and routes that ensure efficiency. At the same time, with the need to optimize the business operations, the company anticipates changes in demand of services especially during the holiday seasons where it may handle more shipments (Halzack, 2015).
