Levels of Project Management Maturity Model (MMM) (Name) (University) (Course Code) (Professor) June 27, 2013 Levels of Project Management Maturity Model (MMM) In the project management field, a number of models have been developed as tools to enhance the achievement of excellence in project management. One of these models is the Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM).Abdul-Rahman Alashwal & Loo (2013) refer to Management Maturity Model as the “standard for organizational maturity developed under the administration of the Project Management Institute” (43).It also offers the “base for organizations to understand organizational project management and to measure their maturity against a comprehensive set of organizational project management best practices” (ibid). This paper will give a brief overview of the Project Management Maturity Model (PMMM), and then explain how strategic planning can enable a company to reach level five of their PMMM. There are five levels of project management maturity. These are: Common language(level 1),common processes(level 2),Singular methodology(level 3),Benchmarking(level 4),and Continuous improvement(level 5).At the common language level, the organization acknowledges the importance of project management and the importance of understanding of the basics of project management language and terminologies. In the second level, common processes, the organization recognizes the need for common processes definition and development such that success in one project can be replicated in others.Also; there is a realization of the need for application and support of project principles to the overall organizational methodologies (Kerzner, 2002, p.42).
