Hypothesis testing refers to a method of selecting samples to know more about the characteristics that a certain population display. Hypothesis testing helps know if a parameter of a population such as the mean or mode is true. In the test process, four steps are involved whereby you state the hypothesis first, set the criteria for making the decision, calculate the test statistic and then make the final decision.
First, we start the analysis by giving out the value of the mean of the population which is the null hypothesis (Schönbrodt, Wagenmakers, Zehetleitner, & Perugini, 2017). For example, we can say that the children in the United stated take an average of 3 hours per day watching. The null hypothesis is then tested so that it can be proved to be wrong.
