For any great organization, appreciation of the diversity of its workforce is an essential aspect. There is virtually no progress for an organization whose differences begin from within; its workforce. There is absolutely every need for the management to foster a spirit of multiculturalism since any complete organization will be composed of staff from different backgrounds, which therefore constitutes different cultures. If diversity is handled well, then the impact of a multicultural workforce can be tremendous for the organization, coming about with increased productivity and a stronger organizational culture as well. Josh Greenberg’s article Diversity in the Workplace: Benefits, Challenges and Solutions provide a more elaborate analysis of the concept of diversity and importance of a multicultural workforce.
In the article, Greenberg discusses about a number of aspects that illustrate diversity, encompassing every form of difference that the members of staff might have between them. These include age, gender and background (Greenberg, n.d).The article’s main premise is that diversity isn’t just about an individual‘s perception of him or herself, but rather how the individual perceives others as well. Additionally, the author is of the point that for the efficient running of any business or organization, there is need for the human resource manager and the department to take a closer look at how the employees perceive communication and change (Burkholder n.d),
The author’s argument, through the article, is in perfect correspondence to the present situation at the workplace.
