Software development life cycle (SDLC) is a development model used in a project management and development. The model describes the overall process and the stages that are implemented in an information system development from the conception to the completion of the product. The model has a broad spectrum of benefits and weaknesses CITATION Dav141 \l 1033 (Kroenke, 2014). The most significant merit is that the model formulates and displays clear project objectives due to breakdown of the project into phases. The downside is that the model is time-consuming. All the requirements are gathered such as planning, defining, designing, building, testing and deployment all at once. This leaves no room for iteration, and there is difficulty in responding to changes that had been specified during the planning stage. The model has a risk of not meeting the specified budget and schedule. Once the time and budget allocation are made during the planning stage, altering the requirements later on proves to be an uphill task as the model is static in terms of its design.
