Before the advent of containerization intermodal means of transportation, logisticians suffered loss or theft of cargo during transit, unnecessary expenses in handling goods and delayed port operations among others. These chronic problems led to the introduction of containerization in 1954 that revolutionized the transport industry. Containerization is the increased and generalized use of the standardized container to facilitate freight transportation. This mode of transportation has enhanced intermodal transportation where the transport equipment is transferable to all forms of transport with the exception of pipeline transport.
