ACCOUNTANCY
Accountants are considered to play a major role in ensuring efficient running of an organization. Accountants are responsible for preparing, examining financial records and ensuring the financial records are accurate, and taxes are paid properly and on time. Individuals interested in accounting career should enroll at an accredited College or University and pursue a bachelor degree in accounting or any related field. Apart from learning accounting procedures and management techniques, the accounting degree focuses on subjects such as cost accounting, auditing, financial accounting, and private or corporate income tax planning. In addition, taking and passing the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam improve individual job prospects. The average annual wage for accountants was 67,190 US dollars in May 2015 (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015).
I have learnt that accountancy offers a myriad of potential careers and employment opportunities. Accountants can work for private accounting firms, private or public industries, banking or government agencies, or they can establish their own accounting businesses. Many public accountants work for government or law enforcement agencies as forensic accountants. The public accountants use investigative methods to expose fraud, embezzlement and other illegal financial activities. In addition, accountants can work as auditors, consultants, and financial expert for various corporations (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015).
The potential career advancements and employment opportunities boost my interest to the accountancy occupation. The occupation provides self-employment opportunity. Accountants can start their own accounting business and offer financial advice to businesses and individuals on budgeting, financing, investment, and taxation (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015).
The information about accountancy career will be helpful when planning for my future career. The information provided the essential detail of starting a career in accountancy such as, training or educational requirement, expected pay and employment opportunities (United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015).
