I would return the Parthenon Marbles to Greece if I was in full control of the fate of the statues. Every country has treasures that act as national pride. For Greece, the statues are a symbol of national pride. This means that they have the right to ownership of the marbles regardless of how the sculptures were acquired. The controversy on whether Lord Elgin acquired the marbles legally further drip the reunification debate. While the UK holds to the theory that Egin was authorized by the then authorities to take the sculptures, Greece believes that he was not authorized.
