Dead Man's Cell Phone
Dead Man's Cell Phone is a popular play by Sarah Ruhl. In this digital age, the play teaches us how we are united and isolated in a number of ways. It raises a couple of questions in our minds, but the most important is what happens when a person dies. Moving on, Dead Man's Cell Phone helps us examine our relationships with other people and the way we are obsessed with technology. To be honest, our too much dependence on technology has made our lives difficult. It’s true that technology has changed the way we communicate with one another and do businesses of different types, but at the same time, it has brought a lot of issues to our lives and has divided us into groups and communities rather than uniting us.
The dark comedy consists of two acts and its main characters are Gordon, Jean, Carlotta, Hermia, Dwight, and Mrs. Gottlieb. The story begins with Jean (Ellen Fred) hearing the bell of a phone while she is sitting in a café. Jean is a nondescript young lady. She finds that the phone that has been ringing for some time is of a man who is not picking it up.
After some time, Jean decides to pick up the phone to know who has been calling for such a long time. In the meantime, she realizes that the man who is the owner of this phone has died. The name of this person is Gordon (Aaron Clark). This is the point when another journey o...
