The first article I chose for this assignment was "6 HR Metrics Every HR Department Should Track (No Matter How Small) by Jessica Stillman. I settled on this article because it addresses the problem of evaluating human capital and the effectiveness of HR initiatives. The article supports a data-driven approach like the one used by Google when evaluating management programs and HR processes. Stillman suggests six critical metrics every company with an HR department should track: turnover rate, the average time to fill, HR-to-employee ratio, career path ratio, revenue per employee, and employee net promoter score (eNPS) (Stillman, 2018). One of the exciting things I learned from the article is calculating the average time to fill. I was not aware that it was possible to evaluate the efficiency of a company's recruitment process. Another new thing I learned from the article was how to evaluate career advancement opportunities in a company using the career path ratio.
The article provided a formula for evaluating a company's intradepartmental and interdepartmental career growth. One key point I learned from the article is the importance of HR metrics in improving organizational performance. Another key point I gained from the article is the importance of employing a data-centered approach to HR appraisal and development. My company's management would react positively to the article since the author provides a rather detailed but straightforward way of determining what HR initiatives are working and what needs improvement. HR metric data is an effective measurement system that ascertains how efficiently or effectively employees work in an organization (Singh & Sarkar, 2021). The six metrics outlined in the article allow companies to track their staff's value and determine their HR initiatives' effectiveness.
