For this discussion, you will generate and compare population pyramids between countries and/or overtime.
To begin, visit the US Census Bureau's International Data Base (Link to external website) and follow the instructions below:
Select a country and a year using the "Country Dashboard" in the left-side panel, then click on "Population Pyramids" under "Shortcuts":
To view temporal (time) changes for a single population, choose 1 country and then hold 'Ctrl' to select multiple years. For example, 1950, 1955, 1960, ..., 2015, 2020, 2025 (depending on data available for your selected country)
To view differences between 2 different country populations, choose 1 year and then hold 'Ctrl' to select multiple countries. For example, Afghanistan and the US
You should now have either:
Population pyramids comparing two countries for a specific year
OR
Population pyramids comparing different years for the same country.
Copy/Paste the URL from your pyramid results. Make sure the URL/link works and takes you to the pyramids you generated!
Optional: Feel free to also include images (screenshots) of your pyramids as well.
Then do the following:
For context, describe which countries you compared or which time periods you compared for a single country.

For this discussion, the chosen country was Norway and the years selected were 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. I have chosen to examine the population pyramids in Norway within 20 years, in five-year intervals. According to the World Bank Data, Norway has an estimated 5,379,475 in 2020 (Population, total - Norway | Data, 2019). It has seen a steady increase since 1960 (Population, total - Norway | Data, 2019).
The U.S. Census Bureau’s International Data Base on Populations in different countries shows the different population pyramids for the mentioned years (Figures 1-5). The population increase from 2000 to 2020 is apparent in the generated population pyramids for Norway. Based on Figures 1-5, it is apparent that the population grew in all age ranges within 20 years, with minimal changes in the distribution of age ranges.
