Leaders Provide Direction and Develop the Organization's Vision
Management and leadership significantly influence performance and satisfaction among nurses. Nurse leaders who are effective managers and leaders usually bring forth quality patient healthcare. From my work experience, I would set the leadership style of my floor nurse, who is a Democrat. She encourages everyone to communicate and give feedback on issues affecting the department. Generally, she encourages and steers an uphill growth both personally and professionally. Leaders are not always managers because some people naturally carry a positive influence that makes others follow them even when they are not in an administrative or managerial position. One doesn't need to be a manager to lead. Leaders provide direction and develop the organization's vision.
Managers do not always lead because their positions mostly allow them to create structures and delegate responsibilities and authority to leaders who are primarily people under them. Managers acquire their sole authority from their position in the organization. To avoid falling down the path of a bad manager, a manager must learn to cooperate with their subordinates and actively listen to them. Additionally, they should focus on strengths and seek positivity by cultivating a growth mindset. The transformational leadership theory places emphasis on how leaders and managers relate with their followers. Transformational managers and leaders inspire their followers by encouraging them to transform and grow better at their tasks and responsibilities. They are highly charismatic and demonstrate to their followers the importance of their functions and the benefits of performing them effectively. Team and individual performance is an essential priority for transformational leaders and managers.
