Lewin’s Field Theory is one of the foremost theories used in psychology that aims to provide an explanation of the behavior of a particular set of behaviors based on the constant interchange between the person and his environment. For Lewin, the environment constantly affects a person’s thinking and emotions, which posits the need for a holistic understanding of the behavior and the environmental factors that could influence such. In relation to Mondavi’s case, it could be seen that one of the main reasons shy Mondavi started his own wine business was due to the external circumstance when his brother tried to remove him from the company. It is the same set of circumstances that motivated him to start his bran and to innovate in such a way that his new one (Krug wines) is even much better than the original ones that they were creating. A case is an excellent example of a person’s vector driving force and vector restraining force. Aside from this brother’s actions, another circumstance where Lewin’s theory could be applied is the restraining conditions that the company is facing, especially in the form of quality and control. Despite being challenges, it seems that these restraining factors are the ones that pushed the company towards success.
