Third-party Conflict Resolution
This paper will be showing how to resolve conflict through the involvement of a third-party, specifically with a mediator. The steps in the mediation process will be explained and followed showing various strategies on how to resolve disputes best. For this specific situation, the mediator would be Samantha “Sam” Pinder, the executive vice president of finance.
There are four steps involved in the mediation guide, which are the following: stabilize the setting, help both parties to communicate, help both parties to negotiate, and clarify the agreement. The mediation will have the goals of executing the process and coming to an agreement in a fair, efficient, and effective way providing satisfaction to both parties. Before the mediation, the approach towards the specific case between Brenda Bennett, director of Human Resources, and Harold Stokes, vice president of engineering, should be identified for the smooth execution of the mediation. In this specific case, as Samantha Pinder, the approach that will be used is orchestration, which involves both Brenda Bennett and Harold Stokes to be in the same room discussing their concerns.

During this stage in the process, it is important to establish having control of the situation but, at the same time, being neutral between the two parties involved. The office where the mediation would take place should also have a comfortable feeling to it at the same time being peaceful enough to converse and discuss the concerns. The goal for this step aside from establishing my position as Sam, the mediator, in this case, is to encourage a healthy space where both Brenda Bennett and Harold Stokes would be able to voice out what they are feeling and thinking about the main issue, and also eventually what possible solution they might be both happy and at peace with.
As the mediator, I would greet both Brenda and Harold, and invite them to my office where the mediation would take place. Available seats would be prepared prior, and I would invite them to decide where they would prefer to sit. When everybody is already seated, I will offer that they can have water that is available inside the room and give them the chance to get if ever they would want some. After everyone is settled, I would start the conversation by introducing myself and my position. I would also mention that they can address me with my name, Sam. Proper introductions of both Brenda and Harold will also be done.
After the introductions, I will state the purpose of our meeting, which is to settle the issue regarding the complaint of Brenda with regards to hiring interns in the engineering department without their consent and knowledge. I will also explain that the purpose of this meeting is to be able to find a solution to the current issue which both Brenda and Harold would be able to agree upon. In this part of the conversation, it is important to make sure that ...
