Restorative Justice Summary
Understanding the importance of the various programs in the justice system is essential for everyone. It allows him to have a clearer appreciation of how these programs can be used to improve the system and ultimately reduce the number of crimes. In the book by Cook and Powell (2003), the authors noted that the main focus of restorative justice should be healing and mending damaged relationships, with the ultimate goal of reducing the likelihood of the individual re-offending. Accordingly, the authors noted that there are four essential factors in the case of restorative justice theory, namely; (1) accountability, (2) apology, (3) voice, and the (4) driving force. All of these four principles contribute to the idea of restorative justice.
In addition to this, the authors also discussed some of the issues regarding restorative justice and aboriginal inequality. The authors discussed several cases, and as shown in the case of Roy, it seems that one of the problems our justice system has now is the underlying differences that cause these problems in the first place. For example, the differentiation between the offender and the victims is sometimes blurred by underlying social problems that must be addressed for restorative justice to take its course entirely. Problems like drugs, lack of social mobility, dispossession, and racism were some of the issues discussed in these chapters.
