Davies (2013) is critical of the DSM because of its controversy and pseudo-science inducements that inspire its psychiatric recommendations. According to Davies (2013), modern psychiatry indicates that at least four people in the United Kingdom and the United States are likely to have developmental disorders in any period of the year. These statistics from modern psychiatry are not factual as these people are not likely to develop mental illnesses, according to credible scientific journals. The misinformation given by the psychiatric industry makes Davies critical because the industry is becoming more prominent each day. Through selling mission formation, the DSM psychiatric industry sells prescribed psychiatric antidepressant medicines to over 47 million UK citizens every year, according to Davies (2013). Another element criticized by Davies is the "Medicalization" of the ordinary day-to-day suffering of the people. The psychiatric industry responsible for the creation of DSM has made the daily economic and social issues medical issues that need prescribed medication.
