1. Mary Prince endured various soul-shattering suffering experiences. It all began with her separation from her family at twelve. She also experienced different forms of abuse, including bodily harm and sexual violations by her slave masters. She was also bought and sold several times before gaining her freedom. The psychological and emotional hardships she talks about originated from such inhumane acts. She implies a life where she is not a property when she talks of "freedom." Freedom may refer to a life where one is at liberty to do things as he/she pleases and is not under anyone's rules and regulations.
2. At the conclusion of "The Nose," Gogol refers to the idea of writing as to how an author may write a fiction story and make it look almost real. The whole story is an illusion but appears very real. The reader struggles to find meaning in the text, yet it is a plain illusion.

The old man sat at the entrance designed for him only but did not manage to access the law. The gatekeeper finally let him know that the entrance was for him alone when he was about to die.
5. "The world was cheating the hunger artist of his reward" implies that the artist was not contented with his payments. He wanted to earn more at a time when his audience had already lost touch with his art. He recorded fewer sales but still felt robbed and never realized the loss of relevance he had attained with his audience.
6. Delia was already tired from the suffering to which Sykes had always subjected her. She was already sick of his character and hated him to the core for all the atrocities he committed against her. The revelation is that Delia has been tolerant of the man for a long time despite the suffering she has experienced in his hands. She tried everything to maintain her home but finally reached her breaking point.
7. Major Aranda writes that the hand really got out of hand to imply the moments that individuals deviate from expectations in their thoughts and actions.
