There are thematic issues that unify the three books Fences, Always Running and Anna in the Topics. However, the theme of loss of innocence stands out among the other themes in the three literature works. It is therefore evident that innocence is a valuable virtue that people lose at some points of their lives, especially as one grows from childhood to adulthood.
Luis, in the novel Always Running by Rodriguez, was born an innocent boy in the neighbourhoods of loss Angeles. He had straightforward parents who were strict but did not know how to mentor their son (Rodriguez, 2005). The parent could punish him for wrongdoing but did not have the skills to inspire him towards doing what is right. As a result, the innocent boy lived in confusion and left in the pull and push of earthly forces. Unfortunately, Luis chooses to follow the path of gang life. The problem of his loss of innocence is father compounded when he graduates from a nonviolent gang to a terrorizing one. The first gang that Luis joins did not have any wrong intention of harming people. The aim of forming the gang was to help them defend themselves during attacks by the other gangs.
Further, Luis, upon receiving advice from other fiends, he becomes that dangerous boy by joining a terrifying gang. Consequently, Luis loses his innocence to become a member of a gang that could rob, hurt or in some cases kill. His intentions at first were clean and filled with innocence. However, upon joining Lomas, the first initiation involved violent activities that for obvious reasons taught every member of the gang to be blatantly violent. As a result, Luis lost his innocence from the time his new gang forced him to force a screw in the flesh of a truck driver.
