The chapters “What is Theory” and “Literature and Cultural Studies” are thought-provoking and informative for several reasons. First, the chapter “What is Theory” attempts to explain the theory as a genre, its effects, and Foucault on sex. On the other hand, the chapter “Literature and Cultural Studies” seeks to inform readers about the origins of cultural studies and the tensions associated with these studies. That said, I have to confess that my interaction with the two chapters provided me with an opportunity to learn several new things. For instance, it made me learn that literary studies are a contentious and contested discipline that sees different kinds of projects compete for attention from the audience.
