The President’s Concept of a Strenuous Life for Government Policy in America
The president’s idea of a strenuous life in the government was all about honesty, justice, and working hard towards a common goal of the nation, 'a great nation'. The president emphasized the life of toil and effort, labor, and strife in achieving what was right. The president condemned selfishness and selflessness and encouraged individuals in the states to work together for the country's good. By saying, "… what every self-respecting American demands from himself and his son shall be demanded of the American nation as a whole." to show that each individual had a responsibility not only to their self by a responsibility to the nation. The president mentioned Lincoln as an open-minded leader who thought critically in solving American problems during wanting times and Grant as a brave soldier and commander. The latter led the American army in defeating her enemies. The president encouraged the citizens to emulate them as fathers who sacrificed almost everything for a better future nation.
