The article articulates a combined nursing bundle to that aimed at enhancing patient experiences in emergency departments. Through the research, the quality improvement (QI) initiative implemented by the authors aimed to accomplish an increase in the overall service delivery and experiences by patients. Additionally, the research also aimed at analysing the staff environment to find ways of making it more engaging. Evidence-based practice (EBP) strategies usually influence patient perceptions, thus affecting satisfaction rankings among the patients in emergency departments. These strategies mentioned in the article include “…AIDET (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation, and thank you), hourly rounding, regular bedside shift reports," all which directly link to improved patient safety.
The methodology included comparisons from patient satisfaction surveys ratings before implementing the system with those given after the emergency staff completed the nursing bundle course. Additionally, the collection of staff evaluation audits over eight weeks after the course played an important role in availing additional information for the study. From the data, an increase from an initial 50% to 60% was observed in the patient ratings on the overall quality care after the introduction of the intervention.
