Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) has often been considered as a means to govern water and land resources in a sustainable manner yet, there are limited instances of efficient IRBM due to a lack of appropriate scientific involvement and organizational accommodation to effectively apply it. This study examines the key obstacles to IRBM implementation, prospective scientific techniques for execution, and research gaps, with a focus on China's concerns and experiences. Novel research is planned to bring diverse fields into an integrative scientific framework, which will serve as a foundation for better modeling techniques, stakeholder participation, and decision-making assistance. Cutting-edge new technology will help IRBM concepts progress from concept to implementation.
