The Meaning of Viktor Frankl's Quote
In his quote, Frankl intends to convey that human beings, once in a while, go through experiences that are completely beyond their control. The tragedies, which could be the loss of loved ones, a job, or even an enterprise, are wont to leave many reeling and feeling absolutely disoriented. However, how we respond to such terrible occurrences is not only important, but it is also entirely left to our discretion. Frankl seems to imply that a tragedy in itself has no meaning; it derives meaning from how we decide to respond to it. For instance, when some people lose their loved ones, they get overwhelmed by grief, believing it is the end of the world.
